Internal Home Enviornment

With Spring officially just a couple of weeks away now is the perfect time to begin thinking about environmental control for your home. As the weather begins to warm up you may notice that some rooms in your home stay warmer than others while others become cold or don't retain any heat at all.

While there are many ways to control the internal environment of a home, one of the best ways to do so is to ensure that your home's windows are covered properly. Some homeowners may utilize draperies which can keep the intense sunlight of spring and summer out a room while others will simply choose cheap blinds to do the same. The problem with these two choices however is that neither blocks out light very well nor helps maintain a comfortable temperature in any given room.

Shutters on the other hand do both in spades and depending on which style and material you choose for your windows, shutters can help keep the home warm at night by trapping heat and cool during the hot spring and summer days by keeping heat out in trapping cool air in.

If you're a homeowner who wants reduce energy costs and maintain a comfortable environment without spending an arm or leg then be sure to contact us to discuss shutters for your home.

Cut Energy Costs And Consumption With Shutters

If you're the type of homeowner who wants the best for their home but also wants to save energy than you'll likely want to turn your attention towards shutters for your windows. While things like window blinds and even drapes can control the light flow in and out of a home effectivly, it is shutters that will truly help you reduce energy costs.

Drapes and blinds can be quite nice but aren't really built to help trap in heat during the winter and keep it out during the summer. This is one area in which shutters really shine stand out above other types of window decor. This is because shutters are designed to fit within windowpanes much tighter and properly which ultimately leads to a product that more effectively helps maintain a home's interior climate.

By utilizing shutters all throughout a home rather than in only select locations you'll be able to run your heater and air conditioning units far less than you would if you were utilizing drapes and window blinds.

Should you have any questions about how shutters can cut energy costs and consumption please be sure to contact us so that we may be of assistance.

What Are Exterior Shutters Made Of?

In continuing with our discussion of exterior shutters, many people who've never purchased them often wonder what materials these types of shutters are made from. The general consensus is that all exterior shutters are made from the same materials as those used in the construction of interior shutters.

This consensus is fairly accurate as exterior shutters are available in aluminum, iron, wood, and in some cases vinyl. The type of shutt a home owner selects will largely be dependent on budget, personal tastes, and desired length of investment. As most of us know even the most costly and well put together wood and metal will shutters face an uphill battle with regards to things like moisture and heat. These battles leave these types of shutters warped, cracks, and peeling. Vinyl shutters on the other hand require very little care and last a great length of time before ever needing to be replaced.

The area in which a home is situated in also plays a factor in what type of exterior shutter a homeowner will want to purchase. Areas with extreme weather will require not only shutters made of a specific type of material but a specialized exterior shutter as well. With so many choices available with regards to exterior shutters its a good idea to consult a professional before purchasing any all.

Run Your Heater Less During Winter

Winter is coming and it's coming soon. With temperatures now cooling during the day and especially in the evenings, autumn is in full swing. If you're dreading the long cool months of the year due to rising energy costs then you might want to consider an alternative to running your heater or fireplace all winter long.

All types of window dressings including blinds, shutters, draperies, and others can all be utilized to help trap heat inside of a home and even a business. Of course it doesn't help to have quality windows installed either but even with older or poor windows installed the right window coverings can efficiently keep heat in a home and cold out.

Should you be looking for ways to save on your electric bill this winter and run your heater far less than you normally do consider adding shutters to your windows. For more information please be sure to contact us and we'll be happy to answer any questions you may have!

Darkening A Room: Which Window Dressings Do You Use?

There are many individuals who enjoy a dark room. There are many reasons why these individuals may enjoy it as well. Some people find the lack of light comfortable and soothing while others would say it makes it easier to work in that particular space. Still there are other individuals who enjoy a dark room simply because the less light that enters the room the less heat enters the room.

For individuals who enjoy dark rooms or look forward to enjoying one the question comes down to what type of shades, drapery, blinds, or shutters they want to utilize to achieve the right amount of darkening.

While draperies, especially those of a darker color, absorbed quite a bit of light they do allow a fair amount of light into a room because they do not sit directly against a window and light escapes from behind drapery as well as its sides. With window blinds individuals will find that although they can darken the room significantly, light tends to seep through blinds even when they're closed firmly. Shutters also do a good job of blocking out light but do allow some light to escape into the rooms in which they are used.

The type of window dressing an individual want to use will depend greatly on how much light they want to allow into a room and what type of mood they are trying to create. Should you be unsure of which one you need to use please be sure to contact us so that we may help.

Tinting: Is It Right For Your Windows?

Within many different ways to decorate windows and to control light leaving and entering a home it can be difficult for an individual to discern which ones work best for them. One of the most popular ways to control light flow is window tinting. While window tinting can be very nice, convenient, and most certainly has its place, it only offers individuals one type or level of control. The level of light that is allowed to leave and enter home is determined prior to the actual tinting of a home's windows and cannot be changed to allow more or less without paying for re-tinting.

This is why a lot of professionals often recommend utilizing something like shutters, window blinds, and even draperies rather than window tinting. All these items, including window shades, allow individuals to completely block out or allow in as much or as little light as they see fit. Perhaps most pertinent of all however when it comes to window fittings/decorations is cost. Window tinting while effective is limited and can be extremely expensive especially if the home is large. Individual shutters, blinds, draperies, and of course shades are all much more affordable than the vast majority of scenarios.

Should you be looking for a stylish and affordable way to control the light that comes and goes from your home be sure to contact us so that we may be of assistance!

How to Measure Window Blinds: Orange County Blinds, Los Angeles Blinds, San Diego Blinds

Before you even pick up that steel tape measure, you need to decide what kind of window blind you want. Do you want the Window Blinds on the inside of the window casing or outside mounted blinds?

The choice is yours alone, and it makes a huge difference how you want the blinds to hang. Window blinds can change a room from a dull eyesore, to the final dressing in your room. They can muffle sounds traveling from room to room, and give you the privacy you want, not to mention the insulation they provide from the outside in winter and in summer.

Measuring windows will be the most important thing you do, and you must use a steel measuring tape. Cloth measuring tapes may be all right to measure your waist, but they are not accurate enough for any type of construction. Measuring anything that will remain on your window and walls require a precise measurement. No guess work here.

To have the desired covering for your windows you must measure within 1/8 of an inch. Don’t trust your memory write the measurement down on a piece of paper. Another hint, always write the width first, then the length. That is how contractors write their measurement always with the width followed by the length, like this 12x24. If you get those mixed up someone will be in trouble, and your window blinds will not fit properly.

You may need to learn how to read a tape measure. They are not always the same. You might have to count the lines to see how many are in one inch. If you are confused have someone instruct you on this. It is hard to explain in an article.

Now do you understand why it is important to choose how the window blinds will be installed, on the inside or outside of the window frame? Let me explain.

If you install the blind on the inside of the window frame, you will have a small gap between the blind and the window. If there is a wide frame on the window that won’t matter, because no light will be able to get in. Otherwise there might be a gap.

Blinds installed on the outside cover the window completely, and make the window look larger. They may also hide an unsightly window and will enhance your room. Remember though the choice is yours, but measure wisely.

Decorating New Windows: Choose Carefully

Individuals who might be planning on redecorating their home and those individuals moving into a new residence generally have interior design on their minds. Where to place furniture, what to move, and what to eliminate from an area of their residence are things that are essential to creating a home that feels like their home.

One of the aspects of redecorating that needs careful attention are the windows in a residence. More often than not individuals involved in redecoration generally don't consider windows an important part of the process though they couldn't be more incorrect. With new paint, new furniture, and perhaps new flooring, a redecorated room will require different amounts and types of light. Some lights will flatter the room while others will make it look far less attractive.

Individuals should carefully select window coverings/decorations for their newly redecorated rooms and in their new residences. There will be some scenarios in which an attractive atmosphere can be created with very little light and then there will be other instances where a great deal of light is needed to not only see within a room but to bring it to life as well. Individuals will have window blinds, shutters, draperies, among other things which they can use to not only decorate their windows but craft atmospheres and moods in specific rooms.

Should you have any questions about what type of window covering work best for any specific room in your home please contact us so that we may be of assistance!

Fixing Broken Window Blinds

Window blinds, especially those of the less expensive variety, are prone to breaking but homeowners with window blinds needn't always rush out and purchase replacements. Much like shutters and even draperies, the majority of damages to window blinds can be easily repaired.

One of the most common damages window blinds incur as a result normal wear and tear is a broken cord. This can be especially inconvenient if the affected blind is used frequently to either block out light or to allow it in.

Such damages to window blinds are inexpensive and easy to fix and can save homeowners a lot of money. An individual should first inspect a cord's guides and a look for excessive wear. If it is completely worn it will need to be replaced or if it is worn to a great degree even a simple fix won't keep it from breaking again. Window Blinds: Which Type Is Right For Your Home?

With the many different items available with which to cover a window, a homeowner may have a difficult time in choosing one when he/she wants to cover or decorate their windows. One of the more popular window coverings are blinds. Not only are Orange County blinds highly decorative and easy to install but they are also much more affordable than some of the other window dressings out there.

Although a homeowner may narrow the choice down to blinds, there's still the question of which type of blind and which brand of blind to use. While brand often determines quality, the specific type of blind a homeowner chooses must be one that fits both their budget and the needs of their home as well as their personal tastes, making the decision a difficult one. Although there are many different types of Orange County blinds a homeowner can use for their windows there are four types that are more popular than any others.
  • Faux wood blinds: These faux blinds look like real wood but are far less expensive than the real thing. These faux blinds are also extremely durable making them great for bathrooms, kitchens and kids rooms. Furthermore they are moisture resistant and very easy to clean.

  • Real wood blinds: Real wood blinds boast a warm natural look and are available in a wide variety of color options. Real wood blinds are perhaps best at blocking out incoming light and weigh very little. As with all other wood products however, wood blinds tend to crack, rot, and chip away over time so homeowners should be cautious in choosing wood blinds.

  • Aluminum blinds: Aluminum blinds are inexpensive and lightweight. Moreover they are available in a great deal of colors. While not as good as wood blinds with regards to blocking out light, aluminum blinds still do a very good job at keeping light out. These types of blinds however are poor insulators and usually less visually appealing than other types.

  • Vertical blinds: Vertical blinds are most commonly seen on sliding doors and large windows. They are very easy to clean, attractive, hold very little dust and are usually beautifully textured. Homeowners looking for something a little more exuberant however should stay away from vertical blinds as they have a very "standard" look to them.
Should you have any questions about the different types of blinds in which type might be right for your home be sure to contact us so that we may be of assistance!
