Exterior shutters are usually much more vibrantly colored and designed than their interior brethren. As mentioned previously this is due to the fact that in most cases exterior shutters function as eye candy first while all other functions are secondary. This is not to say that they can't be used effectively to control temperature and moods of a room but generally speaking homeowners purchase exterior shutters for aesthetic reasons above all others.
